Establish Electrical Service
images-3.jpeg

Need: Establish electrical connection to national grid

Location: Kamuli District, Uganda, Sonrise Children’s Home compound

Background: Our village currently has no operating electricity from the national grid. The nearest power line to our village is 2.5 kilometers away.

We have a primary school of 300+ students, a nursery school of 100+ students, and a children’s home of over 70+ children which all require a good power source. We will soon be building a computer lab, sewing school, etc. which will require power as well.

We do have some solar power for the homes, but that only works during our dry seasons; when we have rainy seasons, it’s hard to produce any solar power. We simply need something more consistent.

Scope: Establish a 2.5 kilometers service line to our village.

Benefits: Our teachers will be able to teach more effectively.  Our school children will be able to learn more efficiently with Powerpoint presentations that are needed for certain classes.  The children in the school/homes, as well as the adults in the community, will be able to learn new skills on the computer and in the sewing school which will help them with finding new jobs to help provide for their families. Freezers will be able to store meat from our animals.

Budget: $15,000

Need: Farm tools and paver making machine

Need: Purchase land to support the church plants

Location: Kamuli District, Uganda, Sonrise Children’s Home compound

Background: We have an abundance of farm/maintenance work and very little tools to do what is needed. Bikes and a boda-boda are needed for trips to town for supplies.  A portable brink making press would allow us to make our own cement brick pavers to reduce our areas of mud walkways around the campus.   Various hand tools would be a blessing to allow us to repair equipment when needed.

  • $2,500 brick machine (so we can make our own cement bricks)

  • $5,000 farming equipment such as: ox plough, 2 bikes, 1 boda, 20 rain jackets, waders, water hoses, rakes, watering cans, panga’s, slashers, tarps, wheelbarrows, shovels, hoes, files, pump sprayers, sickle cutters, rubber boots, gloves, overalls, wide brimmed hats, etc

  • $1,500 to purchase tools for maintenance such as wrenches, screw drivers, hammers, etc.

Benefits: Promote timely completion of projects and able to make our own cement bricks.

Need: Purchase a 30 KV Generator, backup power for lights, computers, wireless equipment, sewing machines, and freezers.

Location: Kamuli District, Uganda, Sonrise Children’s Home compound

In our village, we currently have no electricity. The nearest power line to our village is 2.5 kilometers away. We have a primary school of 300+ students, a nursery school of 100+ students, and a children’s home of over 70+ children that all require a good power source. We are soon to be building a computer lab and sewing school which will require power.

We do have some solar power for the homes/school, but it only generates power during our dry seasons. We would like to purchase a large, 30 KV generator that can be utilized to provide power that is needed in those uncertain seasons.

The children in the school/homes, as well as the adults in the community, will be able to learn new skills on the computer and in the sewing school which will help them with finding new jobs to help provide for their families. The freezers will allow us to be able to store meat from our animals and even sell it as needed.

There is a parallel project that involves establishing a connection to the national grid but this power is also partially reliable.

Complete Nursery School

July 2022

Need: Complete the Nursery School Building and related structures

Location: Kamuli District, Uganda, Sonrise Children’s Home compound

One of the reasons we established the Sonrise Children’s Home and School in this remote group of villages was to affect change among the most needy people. We opened our Nursery and Primary classes in 2018 but it soon became a great need to establish a separate nursery school because of the great number of younger children.

We broke ground in 2019 on a new Nursery School building. It consists if classrooms and offices. The concrete floor and brick walls were constructed expending all available funds. In 2021 the roof, windows and doors are being constructed. This leaves flooring, fencing, latrines, furniture, curriculum, playground, uniforms and lightning protection to become a usable facility.

Proposal:

 - $15,000, complete the flooring and plumbing. (NEED MET)

 - $10,900, fence the property

 - $6,000, playground equipment

 - $6,000, separate latrines for the teachers and students

 - $12,000, furniture

 - $5,500, school curriculum

Land, Barn, Fencing for Goats
IMG_2100.JPG

Need: 5 acres of land, construct a barn and install fencing

Location: Kamuli District, Uganda, Sonrise Children’s Home compound

Background: We need a larger fenced grazing area for our 40 goats. We must walk them from their existing barn and small fenced area each day to graze.  We’ve been grazing them on our soccer field and adjacent land which is too wet in the rainy season causing us to lose goats to sicknesses. We have an opportunity to purchase a 5-acre track of highland adjacent to our existing compound.

Benefits:

  • Maintain healthier goats

  • Fenced area allows our farmers to work other tasks rather than constantly moving the goats to grass

  • The new location for goats will return the soccer field to the school.

  • Enable us to breed the goats

  • Enable us to conduct community self-sustaining projects.

  • As our goat production increases, our food supply will increase.

Budget: $12,000
