1. How is Sonrise Ministries fulfilling the Great Commission? The core mission of Sonrise Ministries and all our partner Uganda ministries is to fulfill the call that we are sent into the world to proclaim who Christ is, what He has done for us, and call people to faith in Him as their savior and into a personal relationship with Him. This value begins with the Sonrise Jinja Church, our Ugandan Directors, their staff, the children they impact and their families and continues as each one reaches another fulfilling the commission of taking the gospel to the ends of the earth.

  2. What is your story? From nothing but faith, our stories are countless. Children rescued from imminent death, to homeless and abused who now excel in senior high and trade schools with goals to be doctors, lawyers, teachers, and preachers. Hundreds of children are now being fed, learning to read, write, or coming to faith in Jesus.  Thousands have been touched with a gift bag of food, a new cooking pot or water jug, a repaired mud hut or a bed to lay their head. Adults and children have been treated for cancer, diseases, injuries, parasites, and other infirmities with the help of visiting teams and in-country doctors. Countless drink clean fresh water from our wells without fear of deadly bacteria.  Young and old have been provided a Bible in their language. Thousands have heard the saving message of our Savior and hundreds of believers have been baptized in the Nile, a freshly dug pit in the ground or a bathtub. From witchcraft and other anti-God religions to hope and eternal life with Christ.  Daily, we are striving to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

  3. What is your relationship with the Ugandans you support? We currently support four independently managed Ugandan ministries. They are supported by our US based non-profit through grant agreements and monthly disbursements. All are owned and managed by Ugandan siblings.

  4. Do the Ugandan NGO’s support adoption of their children?  The primary mission of our Ugandan partners is to rescue and resettle children back with family whenever possible but it is a harsh reality that some rescued children never realize this. Due to various reasons we are not endorsing child adoptions through our organization.

  5. Does Sonrise Ministries Inc. U.S. 501(c)(3) Non-Profit own any property or assets in Uganda? Schools begin with Nursery and then Primary 1 through 7. When a child achieves the 7th grade (P7), and if they test well and have the financial resources they may continue their education in Senior 1 - 6), which in Uganda is a Boarding School. Only about 25% of students completing Primary grades continues into Senior High. The students are allowed to come home at their expense each holiday period.

  12. Can I visit or serve as a volunteer with you in Uganda? Yes! Our Ugandans love to have visitors but please contact us to request a date!

Whether you desire to spend one day or several months alongside our Ugandan servants, we thank you. We want this to be a safe visit for you as you come along side our Ugandans. You will be encouraging our workers who tirelessly give of their lives 24 hours a day being the family and encouragement to many who have been abandoned, left to die or just need a loving shoulder to lean on.

In an effort to protect you, our ministry and our Ugandan ministries, you will be requested to complete an application.  Please contact us to discuss your particulars.

    • Are there health requirements to serve in Uganda? It is strongly requested that all volunteers be in overall good health.  Physical requirements may involve hot days and nights, long tiring days, dusty roads, climbing up and down from a bus with a backpack, non air-conditioned sleeping quarters, hiking on unleveled ground, minimal electrical power, climbing in and out of boats and being exposed to various forms of disease and parasites. However, we support many visitors each year and no one has died yet :).

    • What does it cost to serve with our Ugandans? This depends on your planned duration, transportation needs and areas of service. Our Ugandans strive to keep the fees at a minimum but as with everyone, they are dealing with excessive inflation which has impacted the cost to support your needs. The fees we charge provide transportation, basic Ugandan meals, drinking water, a mosquito net covered bed with bedding, special transportation related to planned visitor/team projects, washed cloths, and physical protection at lodging.

    • Will someone pick me up at the Entebbe Uganda airport and where will I stay while in country? Yes, our Ugandans will arrange transportation and be prepared to transport your baggage to and from the airport. Our Ugandans maintain two guest homes, one Kamuli and one in Jinja. These provide sleeping quarters and meals. They will strive to help with recovery of lost incoming baggage in Entebbe should that be required.

    • Are there special requirements to enter Uganda? Yes. We recommend that you visit the US State Departments web site for current advisories. At a minimum, you must have a passport with 6 months remaining before expiration, Yellow Fever immunization, polio (below age 5). A tourist VISA is required. Other health recommendations are available at Passport Health in the US. We always recommend that the traveler be current on all childhood immunizations.

    • How long am I allowed to stay with you in Uganda? Our Ugandans are unable to endorse a visitor on their VISA for longer than 6 months. Most serve with us for about 1-2 weeks.

    • Can I purchase medications in Uganda? Yes, however it is highly advised for visitors to bring all their required medications in clearly marked containers.
