Christine K.

Born April 2021

Christine K. was born into a challenging and unwelcoming environment. Her mother, who had two children from a previous marriage, became pregnant with Christine after a brief relationship with another man. At six months pregnant, her mother returned to her first husband, who rejected Christine even before her birth. He refused to support her mother’s antenatal care and forced her to deliver Christine at home without medical assistance.

As Christine grew, she faced increasing hostility from her stepfather. He forbade her mother from feeding Christine with any food he provided, and tragically, her mother complied. Often left alone, locked in the house without food, Christine endured severe neglect. Her cries echoed through the neighborhood, alerting concerned neighbors to her plight.

The situation reached a breaking point when neighbors reported their concerns to the village authorities. Despite her parents’ denial of her existence, they forced their way into the home. There, they discovered Christine, a frail baby lying on the floor, severely malnourished and battling malaria.

Christine was immediately rescued and taken to Sonrise Baby Home, where she received the care and support she desperately needed. Her parents were arrested and jailed for their neglect. Christine’s journey, though marked by hardship, took a hopeful turn as she found safety and care at Sonrise.

To make room for new babies to be rescued, Christine was moved to the Mirembe Cottage for Girls in 2024. Her story is one of hope, as she thrives at Mirembe while her mother pursues a brighter future for them both.

We invite you to partner with Christine by supporting her housing, meals, education, and general care to help her continue to grow and thrive.
