Phillip W was born March 2011

Phillip's father left in search of work at one of the fishing villages on Lake Victoria and never returned. After waiting in vain, his mother eventually gave up hope and abandoned Phillip, leaving him in the care of his elderly and disabled grandfather. Unfortunately, his grandfather was unable to work the land or even care for himself, let alone a growing child.

With no proper care or hygiene, Phillip’s health quickly declined. He became severely malnourished and was afflicted with jiggers, painful parasites, that burrow into the skin, causing him immense discomfort and suffering.

Thankfully, Phillip was brought to the Sonrise Baby Home, where he finally received the care and love he desperately needed.

He’s preparing to begin secondary school. Though naturally shy, Phillip has a quiet joy about him. He loves to sing and dance, just as long as no one is watching. His gentle spirit and resilience continue to inspire those around him.
